Harmony Grant Spotlight: DeFimons
DeFimons is a cross-chain NFT based MMORPG where players can buy, sell, and auction their DeFimons NFTs in a marketplace.
Overview
As stated in an interview with @0xGhosty, this MMORPG is inspired by classic games from the 90s. It is not a single game but a collection of multiple games within DeFimons. With a lower barrier to entry, the overarching goal of DeFimons is to have players play-while-earning rather than play-to-earn.
@0xGhosty went on to say DeFimons takes the best of NFTs, blockchain, and Web 2 worlds without the underlying technology hindering the user experience. All player stats will be stored on the blockchain, and you can buy and trade different items such as monsters, skins, and apartments.
Based on its whitepaper, the game’s vision is to reward players for investing in its ecosystem. Users can get a platform to hang out, interact and play with their friends. The aim is to bring out the best of metaverse with DeFi while giving players a nostalgic feeling.
How it works
As humans have tried conquering the world for thousands of years, they have taken away the habitats of wild animals. These humans have polluted the environment, killed wild animals, and even destroyed the entire ecosystem.
The gods have given these animals supernatural powers to protect themselves from human chaos. Humans are divided into groups where one group wants to protect and save them. In contrast, the next group intends to take advantage of these animals and use them in energy generation.
At DeFimons, players have the free will to choose between good and evil. As a player, you can decide to pick any side and follow the storyline that matches your style of play. However, it is worth noting that the decisions you make are irreversible.
DeFimons are animals taken from the real world. The origin of these animals is unknown. However, a DeFimon will have two special attacks, two special defenses, a normal defense, and a normal attack. One attack and one defense from the two special defenses and two special attacks are carried throughout the DeFimons life, meaning that these attributes will never change irrespective of the level of play or upgrades you make.
Play-to-earn mechanics
The crypto game is designed as a game-first project, where the opportunity to earn tokens is based on skills. DeFimons’ game economy is built with a goal of self-sustainability. Most of the sales from stamina packs, health packs, and other small NFTs will be used for PVP competition rewards and generating weekly rewards.
The game also comes with a built-in DEX that will drive and support the economy through the trading fees collected. NFTs will empower you with ownership of what you find, capture, or earn in the game as a gamer.
Players can use NFTs and in-game currency to:
Buy apartments, character outfits, health packs, fruits
Stake and farm
Complete weekly missions to win various prizes
Capture rare monster NFTs through PvE battles
PvP battles to win prizes
P2P marketplace for monsters, apartments, and outfits
Lore
Monsters
Players will usually capture monsters in the wild and mint them as NFTs. These monsters will vary in features such as type and growth rate. A monster NFT’s rarity will depend upon various factors such as base rarity, which can be extra rare, rare, or common. There’s a pet store where you can trade these monsters. You can interact with non-player characters inside the pet store, sell their captured monsters, and buy new ones.
Outfits
A typical outfit is an NFT that the players own. You can use these outfits in-game and swap them whenever you want. Some of the outfits are common. On the other hand, some outfits are only minted for a specific supply or a given period. Players can buy and sell these outfits in the clothing store. Zero value outfit NFTs are provided to players during the initial setup. The good news is that players can visit the store and change to something classy to show off their swag.
Rarity
Each monster’s generation will have a certain number of extra rare, rare, or common monsters. A perfect example is Generation 0, where there are 33 common monsters, six rare monsters, and one extra rare monster.
Common monsters. These are infinitely minted. However, there are in-game measures to ensure that an oversupply of these monsters does not happen.
Rare monsters. These types of monsters appear once for every 100 common mints. Their appearance does not generally guarantee a mint. If the gamer cannot capture the rare monster, this chance is forever lost.
Extra rare monsters. These are only available in story missions. Gamers must collect rare keys to a dungeon, fight the extra rare monsters, and capture them.
Generation
Players are introduced to newer kinds and types of monsters through each generation. An older generation is always rarer than a newer one.
Mutations
There exist three stages of every monster. At every newer stage, a player is presented with a new defense and attack ability that they can either adopt or reject. The newer defense or attack ability will replace the older defense or attack ability and make it one of a kind. The mutations will follow this pattern:
Mutation 0 is a baby animal taken from the real world.
Mutation 1 is an adult animal taken from the real world.
Mutation 2 is a mythical animal taken from typical folklore from around the world.
Apartments
Various buildings on the game have specific flats known as apartments, and players can buy them as NFTs. You can stake your monsters here and help them regenerate stamina and health packs faster. The size of your apartment will determine the number of monsters that you can stake. Almost every town/city will introduce more apartments as the amount of players increases. Players have the liberty to design their apartments as they wish, stake their monsters inside and end up saving on expenses that would have otherwise gone to buying stamina and health packs. Each building will have a specified number of apartments.
Social features
The game has a built-in dashboard where players can add other players as friends. A chat modal appears once a player enters the café building in Heiwa City, and players can interact with friends.
Tokenomics
An in-game economy will exist to reward users and support the token price. The tokens have various uses. Players can earn while playing the game through selling DeFimons captured from the wild, designing & selling apartments, PvP competition rewards, weekly mission awards, and farming and staking.

Wrapping Up
Blockchain-based play-to-earn games have become quite popular in the last few years. The cost of joining these games has been a barrier to entry, and DeFimons promises to do away with this barrier. With the development team’s ambitious roadmap and the hype of play-to-earn, we are excited to see what’s to come in the next year.
